Welcome to my RC car corner. While not useful for much, these cars brought me a lot of joy and gave me an inside look on so much mechanical design.

My 2 meter wingspan RC glider at the stage of Monokote and paint. My dad bought this plane for me when I was 9 years old, but I guess I wasn’t mature enough then to finish it. In 2020 I revived the project, meanwhile working full-time during the lockdowns and saving up for university.
3D printed (SLA resin) spoiler. This 1/10th scale RC drift car introduced me to Solidworks, 3D printing, the whole RC car industry, and really grew my passion for this hobby. My dad and I even developed our own patentable products to sell because of this car.
RC 2WD buggy on setup station. I machined the adapters that went from the M4 axles on the car to the M8 bolts to hold the car in place on the setup station (the OEM part for this was on backorder for months! I actually sold these parts on Ebay and got a sale, too.)

Of course, the best part about the hobby was the build. It’s always been about the build. Most of these cars come as kits that you have to assemble yourself, which introduces you to some neat mechanics, but also forces you to acquire more tools to wrench on these cars with. I’ve definitely watched my tool collection grow because of this hobby.

Fun fact: RC cars are painted from the inside! The polycarbonate bodies are vacuum molded in the shape and the material selected is chosen to survive impacts. The paint is applied to the inside surface of the body to prevent scratching and chipping of the paint upon impacts. It takes specialized paint and a complicated masking process to get the finish just right. Shown above are the masking jobs and painting booth I used to paint my RC car bodies.

Some of the first parts I ever created on Solidworks were for my RC hobby. I reverse engineered my drift car chassis (top right) and did a surface model of a Lamborghini on top of it (top left). Custom accessories for my S15 Silvia (bottom left) and attempted to model the wing structure complete with spars from my glider (bottom right).
