About me

Marc Maurette

Mechanical Designer / Remote-Control Hobbyist / Wicked Dude

Passionate about mechanical design. “A good design is obvious” is my saying, and by that I mean that a well designed product should be hard to criticize. Now, I’m not saying that any of my designs are at that level, but philosophically, that is the goal.

I legitimately spend most of my free time designing parts in CAD, getting chatGPT to do all my coding, and biking – I don’t drive. In the past 4 years, I’ve put 6000+ km’s onto my road bike, just through commuting / going shopping / racing peoples on the trail. It’s not an E-bike either. It’s the real deal, and you bet I do all my own maintenance on it. I rip so hard on my bike, I hit a top speed of 71 km/h once! For reference, it’s hard to keep a pace over 35 km/h usually, but I live for it.

My Shop

To the right is my 60 square feet of office / project space. My ‘lab’ I guess I should call it. Everyday I’m working in here, it’s not often it looks this clean.

It’s grown a lot over the years (so has my collection of foam apparently), and I wish I could expand into a loft-style apartment / office space where the ratio of bedroom to workshop could be more than it is now.

Below is my dad’s shop. It’s a little crowded in there too, but we make it work! Nothing too fancy either, but we make it work! Do I wish we had a CNC? Of course, but we make it work. Seriously though, I love my dad’s shop, it’s super handy when I have for when my projects expand past my mini-workshop, and I don’t know what I’d do without it.

From left to right; band saw, sanders, drill press, compound miter saw, paintbooth, sandblasting booth, lathe, welder, hydraulic press, air compressor. etc
